I love October when the leaves are turning those incredible burnt oranges and reds. Also its HALLOWEEN! To celebrate Halloween, I baked a cake – because cake is for all occasions.
So here is the recipe for my graveyard Halloween cake, I loved making it and hope you try it out too!
You will need:
175 g self raising flour
175 g caster sugar
175 g butter
40 g cocoa powder
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
4 tbsp boiling water
For the icing and decoration:
100 g butter
200 g icing sugar
2 tbsp cocoa powder
Oreo – crushed
Mini shortbread biscuits
Firstly, line you baking tin with grease proof paper, and pre-heat the oven at 180 °C.
Mix your butter, sugar, egg, baking powder and flour.
Then in a separate bowel, mix your boiling water with the cocoa powder. When its mixed and looks like a paste, add to the first mixture.
When your cake mixture is done, pour in the tin and put in the oven for approximately 20-25 minutes.
Once you’re cake is ready, leave to cool on a rack.
Then its time to DECORATE!
Firstly mix your butter and icing sugar, once its mixed well add the cocoa powder.
When you’re cake is completely cooled, smear the icing on top. It can look messy because it will just give the cake character.
For the gravestones, I used the writing icing to write on mini-shortbreads.
For the soil I used crushed Oreo.
You can obviously decorate yours as you like.
I loved making this cake, definitely something I might do annualy. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
That is all for today, see you soon!
