I am sitting here looking at my place in the virtual queue to get tickets for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and thought what better time, than now to write a review on the book. I am currently 19029th place in the queue *cries*.
When the owls spread the news far and wide, that there was going to be a eighth part to the Harry Potter series and it being played on the stage, I was thrilled. However, I was a little apprehensive about the book. I don’t particularly read plays (unless they’re Shakespeare when I was in school), so I was worried I wasn’t going to enjoy it… I was thankfully and surprisingly proved wrong. If I’m being honest I wasn’t even planning on buying it, then on Sunday the 31st July, I was at work and on display was the glorious hardback of ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’. I picked it up and held it and ever since that moment, I have cherished it!
The HPATCC follows the next generation from our original favourites. I don’t want to give too much away but it is a story of time travel, family, guilt and friendship. It is beautiful and the Harry Potter world is bought back to life. After reading the book I am ever so excited to watch it live in the theater.. if I ever manage to get tickets.
Our beloved magical world returns, we pick up where we left them at the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.. on platfrom 9 and 3/4 saying goodbye to their children. The two main characters are Albus Severus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy and as fate would have it they’re not enemies unlike their fathers.
Although the story is written as a script/play it is so easy to read. My cousin even picked it up and said how JK Rowling’s style of writing hadn’t changed. The easy to follow, but full of magic language used, is Rowling’s style to the core. It is a perfect eighth installment.
I read the book in one sitting, that it how easy it was to read. There is a perfect balance of speech and description for the reader, enabling the reader to follow the characters as they embark on all their adventures. This was one of the biggest factors that I feared I was not going to enjoy because of the lack of description.
It was so difficult to put the book down and say goodbye again. Ever since the book has been out I feel like the HP fandom has revived. We are in love with the Harry Potter world more than ever!
This review is so difficult to write because I don’t want to give anything away but I want TO SCREAM AND SHOUT about how brilliant it is. One of the my favourites part is seeing the original characters nineteen years later.
That is all for today, I completely recommend to any Potter fan! Pick it up and you will fall in love. I gave it 5/5 on goodreads.
P.s I didnt get tickets even though I managed to get through that ridiculous queue… BUT my brother and sister in law managed to get me tickets – THANKYOU SO MUCH GUYS!
See you soon.
